Harry Houdini Gravesite

He is buried in New York City which was his home for most of his life until his death in 1926. The cemetery  is across the river in Queens, near the Brooklyn border. It is very private cemetery and none are allowed in unless they are related to those died and are buried in that cemetery. Hence, we do not put the address of the cemetery. There has been vandalism, publicity stunts by magicians and others.

His chosen name Harry Houdini and his real name, Weiss on his headstone or tombstone. Harry Houdini left a large sum when he died to the Society of American Magicians. the equivalent of about $40,000.00 in todays currency. The monument built before his death,  has the bronze colored mosiac round crest is the crest of the Society of American Magicians, of which Harry Houdini was president when he died. Make no mistake about it Harry Houdini loved magic and magicians right to his death.

After Harry Houdini's death he left in his will his gigantic collection of books on theater and magic to the Library of Congress for future generations to study, rather than sell it for personal gain. It is worth millions.  Upon his death he left his magic and escape props to his brother Hardeen who he loved and supported, who was supposed to destroy them when he died.  However brother Hardeen sold off most of it before his death. A good thing as much of exists in various collections.

His wife  (Beatrice) Bess Houdini was not buried there upon her death. There is a buriel spot for her as you can see her name on Harry Houdini headstone at the grave below, but her family did not want her buried there upon her death for religious reasons.
